1. Family Planning Outreach Team Lead

Position Summary:

The incumbent will be responsible for the coordination and provision of quality family planning outreach services across all provinces targeting the hard to reach and underserved populations. Located at a provincial level the incumbent will support all districts in the province to scale up access to family planning that include Long Acting Reversible Methods (LARC).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the provision of efficient, effective, and responsive family planning services in line with the set policies, protocols, standing orders and practices, while ensuring a quality service delivery, that is consistent with the aims and values of Family Planning,
  • Ensures that clinical standards are always adhered to as well as provision of quality service
  • Ensures the outreach team has adequate stocks, equipment and staff for quality service delivery
  • Represents the organization at provincial and district stakeholder meetings
  • Prepares and timeous submission of required period reports
  • Ensures collection and compilation of high-quality data to monitor progress.
  • Prepares monthly schedules for the team and establishing partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure uptake of services
  • Analyses outreach sites and identification of opportunities and areas that need to be piloted, eliminated or expanded
  • Ensures the maintenance of records and statistics as required, ensuring accurate statistics are supplied within required time frames
  • Supervises his/her team and act as a role model for team members within Family Planning.            
  • Provision of induction, integration, and assessment of new clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Identifying learning needs of the team and provides /facilitates relevant training
  • Assist in training of external health professionals
  • Ensures principles of continuous quality improvement into all activities
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are adhered to, to ensure their own safety the safety of others team and all clients.  and actively participates in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Ensures disposal of waste in line with set policies and procedures
  • Supervise Officers working on program development
  • Support the development of annual program implementation plans in line with the strategic plan
  • Works effectively to ensure regular and accurate reporting on organizational performance and needs.

  • Diploma in community nursing with at least 5 years post qualification experience, 2 of which must be in a supervisory position;
  • Certificate in Family Planning Training (Basic and LARC)

2. Family Planning Outreach Nurse Aide

Position Summary:                                             

The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the provision of family planning outreach services. Under the supervision of the Family Planning Outreach Team Leader she/he is responsible for setup of the outreach site and working spaces and maintaining the work environment free from any harm which may endanger the lives of the clients and or other staff members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for cleaning the procedure rooms and assists the Family Planning Outreach Nurse during procedures.
  • Sets up the equipment and stations at the outreach point and dissembling the same after the outreach session.
  • Maintains order at the outreach point.
  • Cleans the instruments after use and ensures that the team has sterile packs always to ensure infection control practices.
  • Measurement and recording of vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration rate, as directed by medical or nursing staff and reports all abnormal observations.
  • Documents actions by completing forms and records.
  • Ensures proper management of clean and soiled linens.
  • Ensures safe disposal of all medical waste to meet environmental management standards .
  • Listening to the clients concerns and reporting any issues to the Family Planning Outreach Nurse/Family Planning Outreach Team Leader.
  • Responsible for restocking of medical and care supplies in preparation of outreach visits.
  • Performs routine tasks under the supervision of the Family Planning Outreach Nurse.

3. Family Planning Outreach Services Regional Coordinator

Basic function

To provide technical leadership and guidance to the Family Planning Outreach teams in implementing the outreach services. Also responsible for the quality planning, implementation, monitoring, compliance, results reporting and performance improvement of the FP activities. The regional coordinator will be in charge of the following provinces; Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland West, Manicaland and Harare Metropolitan.

Key Jobs Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to provincial programs teams so as to improve FP outreach service delivery. 
  • Coordinate and facilitate day to day implementation of the family planning program activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Promote and ensure value for money in the implementation of FP outreach activities by ensuring effective and efficient quality services that meet client expectations.
  • Ensure that FP activities are effectively integrated with other health activities where appropriate.
  • Facilitate acquisition of adequate supplies/commodities for an uninterrupted provision of family planning services.
  • Communicate project performance indicators for Family planning outreach activities and support teams in tracking progress towards the desired outcomes.
  • Develop in collaboration with M & E research tools to monitor project progress, alignment to national and global guidelines and protocols.
  • Develop evaluation methods that assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
  • Communicate and ensure compliance and adherence to organization and USAID policies regulations.
  • Producing accurate and timely reports of program status throughout its life cycle as required by the organization and donor.
  • Meeting with stakeholders to make communication easy and transparent regarding project issues and decisions on services.
  • Support and mentor the outreach teams to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPS) on project management, planning and reporting, deliverables tracking and budget design and management.
  • Incorporates the principles of continues quality improvement into all activities.
  • Contribute to meeting the objectives of the Family Planning quality improvement plan.
  • Ensuring goals are met including customer satisfaction, safety, and quality care.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities  

  • Must demonstrate good managerial, administrative, and decision-making abilities.
  • Able to work long hours and travel outside duty station
  • Good planning, organizing, and management skills to ensure projects are completed timeously, efficiently and aligned to quality specifications.
  • Ability to promote teamwork, collaborating to achieve organizational goals and objectives.

Qualifications and Experience  

  • A Diploma in general nursing (RGN), with post basic training in midwifery, community nursing or similar discipline with a minimum of five years of experience in managing health programs at various levels of health care is required or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences with midwifery qualifications with at least three years’ experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in medicine /MPH/MS Reproductive Health is a distinctive is added advantage.
  • Exposure to health / Social Science development work in Zimbabwe communities is preferred.
  • Must be familiar with MOHCC policies, regulations, program priorities and key planning documents related to MNCH/FP areas of intervention.
