1. Pre-Data Collection:

  • Reviewing the MICS sampling frame to ensure comprehensive coverage and consistency.
  • Revising a sampling plan for four domains: urban, rural, nomadic, and IDPs.
  • Preparing documentation for all sampling procedures, including design, size, allocation, and design weighting.
  • Guiding the selection of Primary Sampling Units (PSUs) and household listing in selected clusters.

2. Post-Data Collection:

  • Assisting with survey weight calculations and verifying accuracy in collaboration with MICS experts.
  • Reviewing sampling error calculations and finalizing survey weights.
  • Attaching final weights to MICS datasets.
  • Preparing or reviewing the sampling appendix of the final survey report.

3. Ongoing Support:

  • Addressing technical sampling queries from SNBS.
  • Collaborating with regional survey and data processing experts to ensure the quality and integrity of the sampling process.

The consultant’s work spans all phases of the MICS7 implementation to ensure data accuracy and alignment with UNICEF standards.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in Demography, Statistics, or any other related technical field with special expertise in survey sampling is required  
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in designing samples for household surveys (experience in countries without recent census information highly desirable) and demonstrated ability to work in fragile contexts
  • At least 3 years of experience in designing samples for household surveys based on grid data
  • Must be familiar with the sampling methodology of MICS and/or Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS)
  • Experience of working in developing countries and emergency contexts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English is required.
