1. Production Manager

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for managing the overall day to day operations at the UZ Agro-
processing plant. The incumbent will also lead in the implementation of the strategic plans, line
balancing, short, mid-term and long-term goals at the plant. The function is to safely produce and
deliver a quality product and service to the customer’s satisfaction. It has to be performed cost-
effectively. The position also oversees the Health, Safety and Environment System of the University of Zimbabwe Agro-Industrial Park.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Production Manager will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the work-force team, including department managers, supervisors and floor staff, to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations at the UZ Agro-processing plant. .
  • Ensuring that processes and operations are performed in accordance with the relevant standards and regulations.
  • Monitoring production processes and quality control systems to ensure that the products are in conformation with the relevant standards, and customer requirements.
  • Developing and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers, negotiating contracts and managing supplier performance.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve production processes, line balancing and drive operational efficiency, implementing changes and improvements as necessary.
  • Managing the Agro-processing plant budget, minimizing costs and maximizing on profitability.
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory, and regulatory requirements related to production operations, health and safety, and environmental standards.
  • Developing and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, driving innovation and creativity within the workforce
  • Overseeing the Health, Safety and Environment Systems of the organization

Education, Skills and Experience

  • A Masters’ Degree in Business Administration/Food Technology and Engineering or any other related field.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Food Science and/or any other related programmes.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in processing/industrial/manufacturing environment, of which a
  • minimum of 3 years in a medium to top level managerial capacity is required.
  • Experience in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods Food Industry and operation of Food
    Processing plants and their statutory and regulatory requirements is an added advantage
  • Class 4 Drivers’ License
  • Maturity, self-confidence and strong communication skills are critical.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends.

2. Facilities Engineer

Job summary

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Facilities Engineer shall perform responsibilities which
include managing the staff, processes and activities for maintaining all plant machinery,
equipment and other physical assets to ensure safe, continual and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

As the Facilities Engineer, the main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Selecting and implementing the maintenance strategies and activities necessary to improve
    or maintain efficient plant operations.
  • Maintaining the facilities maintenance schedule and supervising facilities repair and
    maintenance.
  • Overseeing the facilities maintenance program; identifying and analysing equipment or
    machinery failures and takes corrective actions.
  • Assisting in solving quality problems in the organisation and providing guidance concerning
    compliance with codes, standards, procedures, etc.
  • Working closely with contractors when necessary and providing them with all the necessary
    support.
  • Developing, guiding and following-up the implementation of work safety procedures and
    practices within the plant as it pertains to the general maintenance of the plants.
  • Liaising with the finance and procurement teams to maintain appropriate inventory levels of
    spare parts and fast moving resources required for the operation of the plant.
  • Maintaining appropriate records of maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring that all statutory requirements are met with regards to the operations of plant and
    machinery.

Education and Experience:

3. Finance Officer

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for the operational side of Finance within the business. The main focus will be to ensure the efficient running of the finance function.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The Finance Officer’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting management with relevant information and insights on costs and capital
    expenditure.
  • Ensuring that accuracy and completeness of cost information are included in the monthly
    accounts.
  • Providing input from procurement into cash flow, forecasting and management.
  • Reconciling individual creditors’ accounts to suppliers’ statements and resolving any disputes
    thereof.
  • Receiving GRVs matched to suppliers’ invoices and checking for completeness.
  • Completing payment vouchers according to remittance advices and subsequent posting.
  • Bank reconciliations at the end of the month.
  • Computing monthly VAT claimable/payable and completing returns for submission.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the monthly financial reporting pack to Balance Sheet level.
  • Processing all intercompany/divisions’ creditors’ transactions, monthly accrual charges and all

  • Initiating and loading payments on the banking systems.
  • Receiving bank statements and informing the Sales Department of customer receipts.
  • Creating, keeping, maintaining, and tracking the organisation’s loans (balances, interest rates and due/ maturity dates).

  • Monthly stock taking and posting stock sheets figures and completing stock take.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position in the manufacturing Industry

4. Logistics Coordinator

Job Summary

The incumbent would be responsible for ensuring timely, cost-effective procurement and delivery
of goods and services, which are compliant with the procurement policies and guidelines. This also
entails working with local farmers who supply produce.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities as the Logistics Coordinator will include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and implementing, procedures, purchasing policies and best practices
  • Monitoring ongoing compliance with purchasing procedures and policies
  • Ensuring significant cost savings for the organisation
  • Directing procurement policies to ensure all items are purchased and delivered timeously and
    within the stipulated budget
  • Monitoring supplier compliance with contractual agreements
  • Superintending supplier compliance with internal quality standards and external regulations
  • Facilitating timely placement of purchase orders
  • Reviewing purchase orders for proper authorization and compliance in line with

5. Human Resources Officer

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for contributing to the development and reviewing of human
resources strategies, policies and procedures and implementing the same as well as promoting the
presence of constructive industrial relations and employee communication strategies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Human Resources Officer will include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and review of human resources strategies, policies and procedures and
    implementing the same.
  • Manpower planning and administration in liaison with departments
  • Providing advice, guidance and assistance to managers and employees on HR related issues

6. Sales and Marketing Officer

Job Summary

The main purpose for this position is to promote and grow sales through marketing strategies,
face to face customer interactions and providing excellent customer service and product quality to
ensure repeat orders.

7. Animal Nutritionist

Job Summary

The position of animal nutritionist is chiefly to formulate least cost feed formulations for different
animal species from the available feed ingredients and pass these on to the Feed Mill Supervisor
for production. He/She will also be required to liaise with customers and provide them with advice
on customised formulations to meet their requirements. The nutritionist will also keep stock of the
feed raw materials and make sure that the raw material inventory is up to date.

The main responsibilities of the Animal Nutritionist will include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluating the chemical and nutritional value of feed raw materials,
  • Formulating effective least cost feeds that are competitive on the stock feeds market

    specific needs of the market

8. Production Supervisor (Feed Plant)

Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing the operations in the livestock feed production plant. The Supervisor will direct operations in ingredients receiving grain drying, feed batching, pelleting,
grinding, sampling and quality testing, as well as implementing all safety protocols and processes.
The Feed Mill Supervisor will perform any combination of the following tasks as needed and
appropriate to complete the job successfully.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Production Supervisor (Feed Plant) will include, but are not limited
to:

  • Developing and implementing production schedules and plans to meet customer demand and
    achieve production targets.
  • Monitoring the production processes, making necessary adjustments in scheduling, and/or
    improving production methods/techniques to achieve production goals.
  • Observing the standards and regulations that govern the production of livestock feed.
  • Directing and monitoring all unit operations involved in the production of livestock feed.
  • Communicating with feed mill maintenance and vendors as appropriate.
  • Assisting and providing input for capital projects, equipment upgrades or expansion and
    budget planning.
  • Assisting with capital projects; works with maintenance on project planning and future
    repairing and maintenance needs.
  • Monitoring feed and feed raw material inventories and ensuring the levels are kept optimal.
  • Ensuring mill sanitation and that sanitation schedules are performed.

9. Production Supervisor (Baking Plant)

Job Summary

The Production Supervisor ensures that the highest quality products are produced by monitoring
all aspects of manufacturing of products. This individual must understand good manufacturing
practices, HACCP/HARPC and Food Safety Programs. The incumbent must be able to plan,
organize, and provide leadership necessary for achieving production goals whilst providing the
highest quality products.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Production Supervisor (Baking Plant) will include, but are not
limited to:

11. Quality Assurance Supervisor

Job Summary

This position is responsible for checking the quality of all incoming and outgoing material and
products as well as production procedures to ensure that products meet safety standards and
customer requirements.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Supervisor will include but are not limited to:

  • Developing methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation based on the prescribed
    requirements of the Food Safety Plan, Quality Assurance Manual and 5S principles.
  • Management Representative of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001
    Environmental Management System and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety
    Management System.
  • Assisting facility management in maintaining the Standard Operating Procedures and working
    out necessary instructions to achieve quality standards.
  • Observing programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of manufacturing equipment,
    measurement, and analytical equipment.
  • Observing programs to analyze, inspect and grade inbound ingredients and manufactured
    feeds.
  • Initiating and implementing methods and procedures for disposition of non-conforming
    material and observing the methods to adequately reject, dispose or rework non-conforming
    products.
  • Reviewing the tabulation of data concerning ingredients, products, or process quality and

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or Food
    Technology/Engineering or equivalent
  • Master’s Degree in Food Technology or equivalent is a an added advantage
  • Extensive knowledge of the HSE Management Systems is a must.
  • Work related experience in the food processing or feed production industry is required. Work
    related experience in Quality Assurance methods for animal feeds is preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

12. IT Officer

Job Summary

This incumbent will be responsible for the management of the network infrastructure, database,
and information technology systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, backup, recovery
and integrity of the network and data. This role will require critical thinking and experienced
knowledge and discretion to perform essential functions with limited supervision.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the IT Officer will include but are not limited to:

  • Managing IT resources.
  • Leading the identification, procurement, designing and implementation of appropriate
    Information and Communication Technologies that help meet business requirements.
  • Recommending technology trends and practices that add value to the business.
  • Optimising software requirements and ensuring correct licensing is in place.
  • Managing the issue of laptops and desktops to staff.
  • Implementing appropriate system backups for all sites and data platforms.

13. Quality Control Officer

Job Summary

This position is responsible for checking the quality of all incoming raw materials and outgoing
products as well as production procedures to ensure that products meet quality standards and
customer requirements.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Quality Control Officer will include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting quality checks during raw material receiving and deciding whether to accept or
    reject, guided by the organisation’s quality requirements.
  • Collecting samples for quality checks at various critical stages of production.
  • Selecting output samples and checking on those using appropriate methods and/or send to
    the laboratory for testing.
  • Maintaining records of testing, information and various metrics such as number of defective
    products per day etc.
  • Inspecting procedures of the entire production cycle to ensure that they are efficient and
    comply with safety standards
  • Recording and compiling test results, and preparing graphs, charts, and reports.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing laboratory equipment.
  • Preparing and submitting reports to the Quality Assurance Officer.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.

Education, Skills and Experience:

● A Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or equivalent
● Proven experience as quality inspector or relevant role
● A keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach
● Must be responsible and trustworthy
● Have thorough knowledge of quality control standards and testing methodologies.

14. Maintenance Officer

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for the daily, weekly and monthly implementation, supervision
of maintenance systems, processes, schedules, checklists and documentation.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Maintenance Officer will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring maintenance work is planned and carried out with minimal downtime.
  • Ensuring daily pre-operational checks are carried out to minimize downtime and hazards.
  • Providing regular status reports to the Facilities Engineer.
  • Training employees on proper work methods, safety procedures and scope of authority &
    responsibility based on qualification & skill level.
  • Mentoring direct subordinates, leading team of Artisans & Assistants in predictive &
    preventative maintenance and machine repair.
  • Ensuring spare stores are properly managed to prevent theft and deterioration.
  • Ensuring all spares are accounted for during repairs.

  • Class 1 Artisan in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

15. Plant Operator (Baking Plant)

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for the assembly, installation, removal and replacement,
disassembly, test functionality and operability, maintenance and repair of instrumentation
systems and their associated system components.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities as the Plant Operator (Baking Plant) will include but are not limited to:

  • Calibrating components and instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Calibrating operating, maintaining, troubleshoot all instruments.
  • Carrying out preventive maintenance, such as instrument calibration.
  • Ensuring that the calibration program is up-to-date, effective and meets the requirements of the QMS.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, calibrating and adjusting as conditions indicate.
  • Maintaining, testing and repairing electrical / electronic and pneumatic systems and components.
  • Executing and communicating daily instrumentation maintenance activities.
  • Executing and documenting all maintenance activities and the maintenance process.
  • Installing and calibrating instruments used for measurement and control in production.

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Higher National Diploma in Instrumentation and Control
  • Be able to read and interpret relevant engineering drawings, related specifications, quality
    standards and equipment manuals, and to follow work instructions and relevant plans and
    schedules.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ post qualifying experience in a processing or manufacturing plant is
    required.

16. Plant Operator (Edible Oil Plant)

Job Summary

This position involves electrical preventative maintenance and repair functions to keep production
and electrical equipment operational.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Plant Operator (Edible Oil Plant) will include but are not limited to:

  • Responding quickly to any calls from production to keep production equipment operational in
    a safe manner.
  • Receiving and completing electrical work orders as well as preventative maintenance work
    orders as assigned by maintenance supervisor or Engineer.
  • Recording all problems or observations that should be brought to the Maintenance Supervisor
    or Engineer.
  • Troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic failures on various types of
    machines.
  • Working with and assisting in mechanical issues
  • Any other duties as delegated by superiors from time to time

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment preferably in the
    food industry.
  • Apprenticeship training would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Refrigeration would be an asset
  • Knowledge of TPM would be an asset

17. Plant Operator (Feed Plant)

Job Summary

In this role the candidate will be required to service, replace, manufacture, construct, and fit
components amongst other duties.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities.

The main responsibilities of the Plant Operator (Feed Plant) will include, but are not limited to:

● Machining and overhauling of machine parts
● Adhering to health and safety standards as per HSE guidelines and protocols
● Troubleshooting and rectifying problems
● Maintaining and testing equipment and machining to ensure functionality
● Keeping accurate records of o all maintenance and repairs done
● Taking stock of mechanical spares and ensuring fast moving spares are always available.

Job Summary

The Plumber will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks involving the inspection, testing,
installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing of plumbing and plumbing-related
components in our processing plant system.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Plumber will include, but are not limited to:

  • Installing, maintaining and repairing plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures and water
    heaters
  • Conducting routine maintenance checks and inspection of plumbing systems to identify and
    address any issues before they become major problems
  • Responding to emergency calls and performing repairs as and when required.
  • Collaborating with other technicians, engineers and contractors to ensure plumbing systems
    are installed and maintained according to building codes and regulations.
  • Keeping accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work area, and following all safety procedures and protocols.

  • Minimum National Certificate (NC) in Plumbing/Journeyman class 1.

22. Baker

Job summary

The candidate will be in charge of ensuring that baked goods are prepared according to established
recipes, maintain a clean work environment and preparation of baked goods for sale and delivery
to customers.

Key Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Baker will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the ingredients are mixed in recommended proportions.
  • Preparing, baking and producing pastries, breads, rolls and other forms of confectionery.
  • Using scales, graded containers, measures, weighing flour or other materials to bake products.
  • Operating the mixing or blending machines to ensure required dough specifications are met.
  • Ensuring profitability by maintaining an accurate record of baking operations.
  • Managing needed supplies and inventory levels.
  • Directing and supervising the production staff’s activities to make sure that products are up
    to standard.
  • Collaborating with the research and development team to come up with new recipes.
  • Recommending recipes to renew the menu and attract more customers (e.g. gluten-free
    products).
  • Ensuring the proper storage of baking utensils.

Education and Experience:

  • The candidate must have a food handler’s license, as well as any other certifications deemed
    necessary by state and municipal law.
  • Certificate/Diploma or equivalent degree in hotel or institutional food preparation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to operate basic food service equipment, safely
    and effectively.
  • Baking experience of at least 2 years is required.
